Oral Medicine & Pathology

Oral Medicine and Pathology is the branch of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis, nature and primarily non-surgical management of oral, maxillofacial and temporomandibular diseases and disorders, including management of patients with medical complications.

What is an Oral Medicine and Pathology Practitioner?

Practitioners of Oral Medicine and Pathology are Dental Specialists who have successfully completed formal advanced education in oral medicine and pathology or oral medicine or oral pathology and hold such specialty designation from the Alberta Dental Association and College. Oral Medicine and Pathology Practitioners can help provide a diagnosis of unusually oral defects or diseases. By the use of examination and/or biopsy, oral pathologists can help identify any unusual appearances within the oral cavity.

Why is this important to you?

Oral Pathologists are important in helping you gain an understanding of abnormal growths or appearances within your mouth. An Oral Pathologist can help you and your Dentist or Dental Specialist determine which actions can be taken to improve and help heal these defects.
