Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth and their substitutes and the maintenance of health, function and aesthetics of these structures and tissues.
What is a Periodontist?
Periodontists are certified specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and care of the hard and soft tissues in the mouth in health and comfort. This includes treatment of the gums and bones and replacing lost teeth with implants.
Why is this important to you?
Periodontics is important to you because the health of your gums plays an important role in your oral health. If periodontal disease is left untreated, the disease can continue to worsen and eventually lead to the loss of some or all your teeth. Good daily oral care combined with regular dental exams and cleanings combined with good oral care are very important. Should you become reticent in these areas or your Dentist feel that you need specialized care, a periodontist can help you get on track again and help save your teeth.
